This is my first attempt at starting citrus from seeds.
I started 7 seeds from some Sunburst (Robinson X Osceola) tangerines about 3 weeks ago.

After reading plenty of posts on seed starting for citrus, I decided to peel the white outer coating from the seeds and put them on damp paper towels in a zippy bag. They were placed on top of my converter box. (This has started many palm seeds for me!) When these 7 seeds began germinating, I transferred them to a community pot to grow on. There are 2 seeds in the pot that were not stripped of their coating, and they haven't germinated yet. They were planted on the day I prepared the 7 seeds. The seven prepared seeds began germinating in 7 days and I had transferred them all to the pot by the 10th day.

So far, only one seed has two seedlings. They appear to be quite healthy. They are in Fafard 3B mix, no amendments added. When I see evidence of roots at the bottom, I may prick them out to their individual pots. I haven't decided whether I'll keep these; they're just for fun right now...learning and perfecting my technique.

citrusgalore, I often peel my citrus seed, so that the seed germinates faster. Normally a peel seed will germinate in 5-7 days (at 86-90F), while a non-peeled seed can take up to 21 days to germinate. Show us a picture of your seedlings again in 6 months. - Millet

I will post update about June.

I dug around in the pot where the two regular seeds were planted, and one has put down a root. You're right on about the time....that seed took about 3 weeks.

Update on Sunburst seedlings......

I posted earlier that I would update about June,....well, here it is August and I'm just now getting around to getting the new photo. Here they are:

Out of the 7 seeds planted, I have about 34 seedlings. They are varying heights, and the leaves look different on some. Note the one front and center, for instance.

They all look really good. I haven't decided on what to do with them. I planted them on a whim, for a lack of anything else to do gardening-wise during winter.

I wonder if they are compatible with Flying Dragon?
