Most of my citruses are in bloom already, when it is around April. This could be due to the arctic blast. I have my Oro blanco's satsumas and clementines having numerous tiny flower buds.

Of course the lemons and calamondins bloom year round, but for my other citruses, it is very unusual to be this early. I hope no more late season arctic blast.

Joe,

I am seeing similar bloom flushes occurring on some of my trees, a Moro and an Olinda Valencia. My Page, which I thought was going to bloom in October and then held off, is now resuming. So is my Corpaci lemon. My Tarocco, on the other hand, seems to be initiating a growth flush.

On different note, the recent rain and warmer weather brought on a significant outbreak of mold on my Bearss lime. Starting to get some twig rot like I experienced last year. This is the first that I noticed this winter. Today I sprayed it and my lemons with a second winter dose of copper. I will probably dust it with sulfur as well in a few days. Next year I think I may nip all the winter blooms from the lime before they blossum, in an effort to preclude the problem.

Before the arctic blast most of my citrus were blooming like crazy specially the clemenule, chandler, and oros.
Now I am afraid to look.
All I see from a distance are dried flowers and dried new leaf buds.

So far out in the orchard only my Meyer lemon has chosen to blossom and has been since the first of the year. None of the rest of the trees appear to be thinking of breaking dormancy. Which is good because we're predicted to go to 23 on Friday night. I'll have to cover the Meyer again.

The container citrus have all been blossoming for a while now. Even the Flame grapefuit which I've got stuck in the hoophouse waiting on our frost free date to plant in the orchard.

Alan, your getting colder than we are again! We are getting down to 32 tonight-- from 72 yesterday--that's a 40 degree drop in 36 hrs. I was just out covering all the citrus, but the wind is making it difficult to keep the covers on.

Our low for Thurs nite-Friday morning is predicted at 28 or 29 depending on the source and that's 5 degrees warmer than you. Lazz and Ned have been warmer than us a lot this winter--something is wierd!

I hope you make it through without much damage.

I haven't been citrusboy long enough to know when my little orchard starts their bloom up here. Meyer lemon and all my Bearss and Kaffir limes are budding and have flushes. Yuzu's are dropping leaves. Mandarins are 50/50 starting to flush. Grapefruits aren't doing anything.

Had my first Temple Tangor today. Tasty and only 4 seeds!

Good luck with the weather Skeeter...
