The Hottest summer on record. Man oh Man I have lost so many buds it ain't funny.

Here are a few that took:

For some reason, I don't have a pic of the Xie Shan Satsuma that just budded... Hmm Anyway, looking forward to my budwood from UCR for my Fall budding session.

It's all good until I almost slice my finger off again...

those look good, congrats!

Ive got some 1-yr-old FD seedlings that i dont think are quite big enough to graft to yet- they are so hardy and not fussy i havent fertilized them like the other trees, but guess ive gotten slower groing because of it Sad

Was this your first season trying? I might just try some self-grafts to my mewia and pummelo just to see if i can get the technique down....

Hi Marc, isn't it nice to see them budding!!!?? Nice job on your first attempt. Think of it as experience now to graft your coming budsticks.
It's my first attempt too - couple weeks ago. I got real discouraged when so many went brown, but 2 budded out for me. Now got to figure out why the tiny leaves fell off of them!! I budded a few more this week & now I think I know what I did wrong before. Practice, practice, practice. Doing it is the only way to learn. The hardest thing for me was to just DO IT.
Now, don't go losing any fingers!
Oh yeah, Malcolm Manners wrote some detailed info on t budding in the Tutorials (grafting & budding) called "Using Knife succesfully without shedding blood". I learned a lot there. Today, I put the buds in my mouth while I cut the T. (ha ha, you gotta read it)

Oh Man, I just read that about putting the bud in your mouth. Too Funny! Maybe I will try that. I need to get a grafting knife too... Internet shopping at it's best.

I use a utility knife. The single edged carpet cutters are better, but I can't find any. Right now, I can't afford a budding knife Wink
