The EIU ranked 127 cities in terms of personal risk, infrastructure and the availability of goods and services. All the cities that fell into the top "liveability" bracket were based in Canada, Australia and Europe.

And if you want to grow citruses, avocadoes, bananas and various deciduous fruit trees, berries, grapes, kiwis, etc... Victoria Island is very ideal. Surrounded by water that keeps the freezing temperature at bay. All you need is an unheated hoophouse over your citruses to bring about their full flavors similar to that of California's citruses.

By year 2025, IF you let the US medical industry have their way, the insurance premiums would exceed your salary, so something has to give before that time. The average annual rate of medical insurance increase is more than 3 times the average annual salary rate increase.

Some government employees, law enforcement, firemen, the top directors and career politicians have retirement plans that the taxpayer will forever pay for their medical health benefits, part of the entitlement pay. In California alone, the entitlement consumes more than 3/4 of the entire state budget. When the state revenues is far less than the required entitlement pay, you can only guess that none of our cities will be the place to be when you retire.

Granted the natural beauty is a big selling point. How about the weather? You get 9 months of rain, depressing, low altitude overcast gray clouds, and 40-50F. Sound inviting? As an example of how rainy the place is, most people have the problem of moss growing on the north side of roofs and in shady parts of lawns. Slugs grow to 6 inches or more in length. In the winter you get 8 hours of daylight. Summers are nice, with little weather over 80F but rain several times a week as well and 16 hours of sunlight. I grew up in Seattle and attended U of Washington. After living all over the USA, my opinion is there are many places better to live.

There are excellent methods for keeping out the rains while attaining excellent crop production.

A friend in Samoa has become millionaire by growing big organic tomatoes in CHC's and hydroponic soil-less media. One of the secret is to keep out the rains using corrugated polycarbonate sheets. No need for screenhouses either. He's been supplying local hotels and ritzy people with these tomatoes so he earned mucho dinero.

Not wanting to keep it all to himself, he started a community project to expand the business to other crops in the very rainy Samoan islands, employing a lot of people.

the local tomatoes btw, are tinier than cherry tomatoes and they are very short lived because of the rains.

The rains in Vancouver and Victoria Island should be no brainer if one is so determined.
