also more vitamins than regular oranges. Pigmented or blood oranges originally developed more anthocyanins and antioxdiants to survive the extreme daily temperature fluctuations in volcanic regions of Italy. In effect it has more antioxidants. Temperature fluctuations in the inland California Valley is perfect for development of pigmentation. That could perhaps explain in part why the Red Valencia developed as a mutant in California, it is the "bloody" sport of regular Valencias. Now I will have expand my blood oranges by grafting over some of my vigorous regular oranges.
