I am hoping to get some help with my yuzu seedlings.

I planted 4 seeds about a month ago, one of the 4 sprouted and has 2 sprouts which I have read is fairly common. One of the little trees is about an inch tall and the other about half that size. My questions:

1) Now that they have sprouted, what kind of care do they need? I currently have them under a 16 hour grow light with some tomato seedlings....do they need all this light? Should I move them outside during the day?

2) When is the best time to separate the seedlings? How large do they need to be? Do I just wait until I transplant them?

Thank you!

Emily

Yuzu are monoembryonic and should only produce a single sprout. Are you positive the seeds were from a Yuzu ?

Well, I was pretty sure it was a yuzu...we found a tree in a friend's yard and based on other pics of fruit found around the web, yuzu is the only thing they looked like. Evidently I was wrong! They tasted sort of like lemons. Are there other very seedy lemons?

There are many fruit that resemble seedy lemons. Yuzu seeds are large for citrus seed & have a dark end to them. I will see if I have any fruit on the ground tomorrow that still have viable seed in them and get a photo.

Thank you Laaz. I will post a picture of the tree (unfortunately, the fruit is long gone). The seed was very large, but I do not remember if it had a dark tip. I could dig one up that hasn't sprouted.

Thank you!

I am not sure if I am posting these pictures correctly...here are some pictures of the mystery tree taken this morning.

I am looking to see if we took any pics of the fruit. The fruit was round (like an orange, not like a lemon), yellow when ripe and bumpy. There were lots and lots of seeds and the taste was sort of like a lemon but more bitter.

Any guesses are appreciated!

Thank you.

This is not a Yuzu (wich is monofoliate). It is a poncirus crossing. probably a rootstock that grew after the graft died.

Interesting....so I can use it for rootstock (which is why I was trying to grow it anyway)?

Thank you!

Yes it looks like Swingle. Should make a great rootstock.

Here is a pic of my Yuzu.

Wow, your yuzu looks great. I am glad that I can use my little trees for my first experiments with grafting even though they aren't what I thought they were.
Laaz - you probably don't remember but I purchased a little meyer lemon tree from you in late 2009. I got one lemon from it this past growing season and am looking forward to more this year.

Thank you for responding!
