Hello,

I have a weird question that was not found on this forum.

Will me smoking in the room affect in any way the germination process of my new lemon trees?

Thank you,

There are some plants that you don't want to handle tobacco and then the plant due to Tobacco Mosaic disease. One is Tomatoes so don't smoke while you are messing with them.

"smoke" treatments are necessary for germination of some Australian native plants, those that are triggered to germinate by fire. I dont think smoking would benefit Citrus, it is pollution, but it is hard to imagine smoking enough to inhibit germination. Just dont have any card nights in there!

Hi Pagenr !

I know eucalyptus seeds like to germnate after fire ...
What about the native citrus there ?
Do you have any knowledge about that ?

Regards !

Microcitrus species are mainly rainforest trees, and not normally subject to fire, as a natural landscape cycle. Eremocitrus, maybe the NT humpty -doo lime,(gracilis), and maybe Mt White Lime (garrowayi) in Cape York are found in fire prone savannah, but not all plants in that region are triggered by fire.
Usually they have some mechanism like hard woody cones/pods that only open after fire, or germination inhibitors that are "turned off" by something in smoke.

Very interesting !

At all that rare Citrus gracilis and Citrus garrowayi hit my interest very much.
