Any idea how this will play out. True 88-2 Mandarin or something else? I am thinking that since this is a hybrid Lee/Nova Mandarin, that I will get something else...

There are, of course, citrus "hybrids" caused by cross pollination. However, 97 percent still produce true to the mother parent from nucelar embryos. Every now and then a zygote survives to produce a new fruit variety, and there are a few varieties such as Clementines that never are true from seed. Was there only one seedling plant produced? - Millet

One method to tell for sure if the seed will produce true is to open a few seeds of the variety and see if they produce more than one embryo, or if they are monoembroyonic (thus will not produce true from seed). - Millet

I will have to remember that for next time. I ate and juiced 9 88-2's from my visit to UCR and only had 3 seeds to show for it this time. All got planted.

Then again, I can almost see my wife looking at me cutting open a seed on the dining room table...
