In summary, my Flavorella fruits are truly the best tasting stone fruit yet! I waited 7 years to find a suitable pollinator for this and was finally rewarded with a heavenly taste today. I harvested 2 fruits and was blown away by the taste.
It has the aroma similar to Santa Rosa Plum when the Santa Rosa is at its peak Flavor. The flesh is firmer. It has hairs like the apricot but far fewer and you can eat the skin too. The outer flesh, just under the outer skin is a little bit tart with the perfect acid blend. It goes sweeter as you bite deeper into the core! Truly a perfect blend of interesting flavors with a perfect finish. It is truly aromatic, sweet, perfect balance of acid, with interesting character as you nibble away from the outer layers into the core. No bitter aftertaste like most plums. Santa Rosa Plum like flavor with yellow golden flesh with sweet apricot aftertaste. Juicy yet firmer flesh, a delight to eat, truly worth the long wait. The fruits looked beautiful as they ripen, and the birds doesn't have a clue about them. It is new to them. The fruits are bigger than the apricots and Santa Rosa Plums.
Here's a picture of some of the fruits I took this evening:

Beautiful Joe, they look so GOOOOOOD!!! Lucky you! As you all can see, it is darn right chilly here this morning, but today is the turn around they say and we will be back to what ever normal is! Possible severe weather for the weekend Not sure what's up with the weather statement at the bottom here but its only 40 degrees here. It said that at first but when I did an edit the temp jumped 10 degrees, maybe its trying to make me feel better! _________________

Joe:
Your pictures are impressive.
I have no doubt as to the taste as you describe.
I also have a gren gage plum that looks similar in appearance as yours.
I believe I gave you a scion. When it fruited I want you to compare the taste. I believe that both will be tasting the same stage to your discernable palate.
Here's a picture of my green gage plum

Benny, would you believe that your gage plum is grafted next to the Flavorella? Both have fruits. I have just grafted yours this year and it has 2 lucious fruits right now. But the Flavorella fruit is earlier. Do you happen to know the name of that green gage plum? For now, it is named as Benny's Green Gage, |

Joe:
I can't even remember where I got that from. Sorry.
But just leave it at that. You can remember me when you are eating the fruit.
Those pictures are from last year. I like it so much that I grafted them all over my Satsuma, plout and santa rosa plums.
Here's one pic that is grafted to my satsuma plum. The yellow one is the green gage.

Benny, I am beginning to suspect that it is the Shiro Plum. But I will be able to test it this season if the birds won't beat me to it! |

Valenciaguy, I have fruits year round. My citruses are not even over yet (excepting lemons, grapefruits and calamondins which tend to be year round). I still have Valencias, Mandarinquat, kumquats, limequats.
A couple of weeks ago, my stone fruits started marching into the fruit bowl. It started with Goldkist apricots, followed by early season cherries, then this Flavorella which will be followed by more cherries, then shortly after that will be Flavorosa and some other early season pluots, then nectarines, then more apricots, plums and more plums and pluots, blueberries, rasberries, early season apples, then more plums, pluots, peaches and more nectarines,... towards the end would be late season peaches, pears, persimmons, then citruses again through the entire winter until there's stone fruits again.... |
