A week ago we took our young cat to the Vet to be spayed. During the procedure they have to put a tube down the cat's trachea to sedate her for the operation. When doing this they punctured a hole in her trachea, causing air to bubble under her skin pretty much throughout her body. They thought the air would be absorbed by her body. The bill was $325.00. Today, a week later, the cat woke up this morning looking fine, but by noon she was literally at death's door.
Rushed back to the Vet, we were told that the cat needed a special Doctor, and he could only be found in Denver, 30 miles away. They did not know if the cat would live long enough to reach the hospital. We did make it to town, with the cat still alive, and she was rushed into the back room. A half hour later the Doctor came out and explained what was required. The cost would be between $2,000.00, to $3,500.00, *IF* they did not have to operate. If an operation was need it could be $5,000.00 or more.
We had no option but to put the cat down, and my wife signed the papers with tears in her eyes. Just as we were about to leave the animal hospital, the Doctor ran back into the room stopped us and said a technichan wanted to adopt the cat and will assume all the expenses if we would release the cat to her. My wife signed the adoption papers giving the cat over to her, and then went to meet the woman and thank her. She looked to be about 30 to 35 years old. My oldest son had been saying prayers to Saint Francis patron saint of animals while were rushing from Vet to Vet (reminding me of Hooserquilt). Anyway, a terrible day ended with the first inside a building Rainbow I have ever seen.. - Millet |

Millett, so sorry, very sad. My brother is a vet and he says one time a brand new vet gave a cat a normal vaccination shot and within minutes the cat went into shock or something and died immediately. They don't think it was anything that the vet did wrong. They don't thing the medicine went into the blood stream directly instead of a muscle or anything else that could have been prevented. It just happened. Cats can be real tricky. They are suppose to have 9 lives but sometimes something goes really wrong very quickly. Tom[/b] _________________ Tom in central Alabama |

It's still sad that you lost your cat despite that she was saved...
I don't know what had to be done to save the cat but sometimes I wonder why some treatments have to be that expensive... _________________ - Marc |

Sorry to hear about your cat. We had the same type thing happen to us with one of our dogs many years ago but didn't get the happy ending. Hopefully the procedure went okay and kitty is doing well. Are you going to keep in touch with the vet tech? |

I don't know if this is a weird question or not, but the vet didn't take responsibility for screwing up in the first place?
"oops, we broke your cat, tough luck!"
How horrible.
At least the rainbow at the end. |

Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. This morning my wife received a telephone call from the Vet at the Alameda Veterinary Clinic. The cat is doing much better, but something went wrong with the woman that wanted to adopt the cat. So the cat is presently at the clinic in a limbo situation. The Doctor asked if we would like to have the cat back, and if so the clinic would greatly reduce the price for their services. So in a very long round about process it has came full circle. We pick the cat up on Wednesday. This cat is on it 4th life. - Millet |

Bob, that's one of the best "happy ending" stories ever. Our little kitty guy is a rescue. My youngest daughter as a freshman in college, noticed one day at work at the university's natatorium that some boys were kicking something around down at the end of the hall. As she walked further down the hall to go outside and ride her bike back to her apartment, she realized what they were kicking. It was a kitten that kept trying to run back into the hall to get out of the rain. She was so angry, she ran up to the boys (all 5' and 90 lbs of her), gave them a tongue lashing that would have made a sailor blush, scooped up the poor little kitten, tucked him into her coat, and rode back to her apartment with her. He barely made it, and ended up with some permanent spinal cord damage, but he lives on today, very happily with Dave and I. He was a stray, very sick, full of parasites and very injured, but he made it. He's the nicest kitty, and we really enjoy him. Katie had to bring him home to us, when she had to move to a new apartment that didn't take pets, and he's been with us ever since. So glad your story ended up with two happy endings! _________________ Patty S.
