Well the citrus tree certainly cannot rely on any energy that it may have stored in its leaves to regenerate itself, when they have been discarded and are no longer attached to the tree.- Millet (339 ABo-)

They have to have stored energy in the stems & roots. Many citrus can freeze to the ground & come back from the roots.
