Hmm. My tree is 5 years old and approaching 10 feet tall and 8 feet wide. Last year I got 4 fruit. This year a couple dozen fruit that tasted OK if really dark red with a resinous undertone. Last year I chopped one side of the tree away and planted figs. I guess I'll keep the thing for it's bragging rights as I don't know anyone else growing them. I have 4 year old 4 inch seedlings to sell at the master gardeners sale next year to other rare fruit nuts. It survived our 26F freeze this winter which I can't say the same for 3 of my 25 citrus trees that defoliated or had the graft die off. What do others think of COtheRG? I bought the tree at ECHO in Ft Meyers. They don't root or air layer however!

I am so curios as to what it is. Is it tropical or subtropical. Although I can look it up, I truly appreciate descriptions and experiences from the proud owner, Smile

Is it similar to Capulin Cherry in any way?

Of the several Eugenias I've grown, I'd say CotRG is perhaps the prettiest tree, and the fruit is attractive. It does have to be quite tall to bear, meaning a good number of years. And the fruit is somewhat bland -- not as bad as, say, a jambolan, but nothing like a grumichama or a Surinam cherry.

Must be dead ripe to be somewhat sweet. It has a hint of the surinma cherry resin flavor. The pictured fruit was sour, but I endured it to get the seed.
