I've been seed growing a citrus (I think it's a tangerine, I'd dumped more then one type of seed in the pot it sprouted from) and recently it hasn't been looking so good. All of the new leaves have been wrinkly, spoon shaped leaves and the older leaves have started yellowing around the edges. The new leaves start out looking fine, then get a kink about 3/4 of the way down and then end up looking like the pictured leaves.

I thought that the problem was that I'd re-potted the tree about a two months or so ago, and that it'd been moved outside. However the problem still hasn't cleared up.

I've already checked for insects and haven't found anything, so that about exhausts my citrus knowledge.

It looks like the tree is suffering from high soluble salts in the root zone. When was the last time you flushed out the container? Also, each time you water/fertilize your tree do you add enough water so that 20 percent of the irrigation water poured onto the top of the soil drains out the bottom of the container? If not, every time you water your tree, soluble salts build up in the root zone. Flush the medium with clean clear water in the amount of four times the volume of the container. It also looks like you have not been feeding the tree any magnesium (Epsom salts). The best to you and your tree. - Millet (1,307-)

Salt build up makes a good deal of sense, the previous pot the tree had been in had awful drainage so I avoided giving it a lot of water to avoid root damage. Also, the water where I live has a astounding amount of mineral crud in it. I have recently started adding Epsom salts on the advice of a friend, it's nice to have confirmation that it's good advice.

I'll try flushing the tree later and we'll see if that helps it out.

Sludge, look at the bottom picture that your posted. See the leaves that have a darker green coloration that is in the shaped of a delta. The delta shape on a citrus leaf, with yellow on the outer margins is the symptom of a magnesium deficiency. If you had not started to feed Epsom salts, and the magnesium deficiency continued to get worse, the outer margins of the leaf would have turned more and more yellow, while the green delta would have remained. You can mix your hard water 50:50 with distilled water or rain water to reduce the soluble salt content. Nice having you on the Citrus Growers Forum. Take care and the best of luck. - Millet (1,307-)
